| | As many of you know, I've been pursuing my passion as filmmaker for the past few years, and I've recently embarked on my most ambitious project to date - ROY G. BIV. The film is based on a true story of a West Virginia coal miner with a terminal illness that needs to find refuge for his aging son with Down Syndrome. It's a touching story about the unique bond between parent and child. We're set to shoot in West Virginia this summer, we've started casting, we assembled a great team to make this movie. Here is where you come in. We're in the middle of fund-raising for this project and the film needs your help. In the past, many of you have helped with donations of services, vehicles, supplies, locations, and most importantly, your undying support. Given this project's larger scope (25 minutes, 35mm and outside of NYC), we're in need of funds this time. And I normally wouldn't ask you to donate if it weren't for: 1) I truly believe in the potential of this project and 2) donations are tax deductible. The project has recieved a great deal of validation: we recently won the Fuji Film Award and Fotokem Processing Award so we now have our film and processing. The film is a graduate thesis film from NYU, who almuni include Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee and Ang Lee. And the last thesis film that I produced was selected for this year's Cannes Film Festival. There is also an altruistic aspect. We are working with mentally disabled actors who typically do not have an opportunity to be in films. Despite the accolades and grants, we need to raise $30,000 to go ahead with production. We are officially a non-profit. If you already make charitable donations, please consider ROY G. BIV as your charity this year. If you love film and ever wanted to be part of one, this is your opportunity. Please let me know how much I can count on you for. For those of you who want to donate, have committed to donate or know of other who want to donate, tax-deductible donations can be made online through our non-profit sponsor at: https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/contribute/donate/962 You can also: 1) call in your donation to Fractured Atlas (212-277-8020) or 2) send a check (Make your check payable to "Fractured Atlas" and include "Roy G. Biv" on the memo line. Send your check to: Kim Spurlock; 166 7th Avenue, Apt. 4; Brooklyn, NY 11215).
Every amount helps, whether it be $20 or $2,000! (And don't forget your company's gift matching program.) For more information about the film, please contact me or visit www.roygbivmovie.com. Lastly, please spread the word to other organizations and individuals who may be interested in donating. Thanks! Always, David |
